CAREER TIPS - How To Boost Your Career In 2022

If you’ve found yourself amongst those hoping to take your career to the next level, here’s how you can boost your career in 2022.

Set clear quantifiable goals

It can be tempting to aim high and set yourself big, impressive career goals. However, when it comes to actually achieving these goals, it’s best to think micro and not macro.

Breaking down your bigger goals into smaller objectives allows you to set achievable targets that give you a clear path to follow. With each task you complete, no matter how big or small, you’ll feel a sense of accomplishment, motivating you and pushing you forward.

Build relationships

It is well established that networking is an important part of career success, but if you hope to level up, you need to be able to form genuine professional relationships this year, rather than simply racking up followers on LinkedIn.

Find a mentor

Whether you are a fresh graduate, or CEO you can always benefit from the support and advice of a mentor. This could be anyone from a colleague to a friend, or even someone who is a total stranger right now. As long as the person is currently sitting in a similar position to the one you are aiming for, and they are happy to help you reach your career goals - you've found a mentor.

Review your progress regularly

As well as breaking your goals down into more manageable targets, you also need to make sure that you’re regularly reviewing your progress. By constantly reviewing your goals and the progress you’ve made, you give yourself a chance to be proud of how far you’ve come.

On the other hand, you also give yourself the opportunity to notice any areas where you might be falling down so you can address these as quickly as possible.

Ideally, you should review your smaller targets at least once a month and your bigger goals at least once a quarter. This is imperative to ensure you do not lose focus on your aspirations and that you stay on track.

Work on your weaknesses

Early on in our careers, we are often told not to fixate on our weaknesses but instead focus on our strengths. However, as you become a more established professional, you understand that recognising your weaknesses can give you a clearer idea of what’s holding you back and what you need to do to overcome this.

So this year, if you can fully highlight and understand where you fall short, you can take positive and proactive steps to rectify this and take your career to the next level.

So take into consideration the five points outlined above, setting yourself goals, working on your professional relationships and always aspiring to keep learning. Do this, and you will give your career an instant boost this year.
