Posted 21st July 2021 • Written by staffingindustry.com •

Remote job opportunities are on the rise in the UK according to a report from LinkedIn.

According to the report, the share of remote jobs by industry ranges from 5 to 19 times the levels seen in June 2020 as the UK embraces greater flexibility.

Industries that had low levels of remote jobs one year ago, such as retail and transportation & logistics, saw double-digit increases.

LinkedIn research finds that 38% of UK workers would prefer to work remotely full-time, while 49% prefer hybrid working, and 12% want to work full-time from the office

Industries that already had a relatively higher share of remote jobs in June 2020, such as software & IT and corporate, continue to invest in remote positions, seeing an increase ranging from 5.5X to 6.5X. The software & IT sector appear to be embracing remote work long-term, with more than one in five jobs advertised in June as remote positions. For industries like healthcare, finance, hardware & networking and legal, now one in ten advertised positions in June were for remote posts.

Becky Schnauffer, Senior Director at LinkedIn, said, “Job adverts for remote roles are booming, a signal that a more flexible approach to work is here to stay for the foreseeable future. This is a seismic shift in the way companies operate as they reconsider the purpose of the office and the distribution of their workforce. Remote roles will create new opportunities for a wealth of people, particularly those with care-giving responsibilities, additional needs or people who simply cannot afford to live near office locations. The challenge now for HR and leadership teams is to create a system that works for all employees - keeping people engaged, connected, and included regardless of their location.”
