Google DeepMind candidates urged to fill in form to bypass AI

A team at Google DeepMind is encouraging job candidates to fill out a special form alongside their application to ensure they are not screened out by the company’s internal AI systems.

According to a document seen by Bloomberg, Google DeepMind’s AGI Safety and Alignment Team has shared the guidance with promising candidates for its division, which aims to mitigate the risks of advanced AI.

“We have an applications system with a non-trivial probability your CV will be screened out incorrectly or take too long to reach us,” the document states.

“Filling out this form makes sure that a real human on the team will get to see your application.”

It adds: “A real human will read these. These humans get really tired of reading LLM answers, because they all sound very samey.”

Like many AI-focused technology companies, Google promotes its tools as a way for HR and recruiting teams to sift through job applications more efficiently.

A Google DeepMind spokesperson told Bloomberg that the company aims to hire the “most qualified talent” and denied that its systems were filtering out candidates.

“This team set up a special form to go past the recruiter review, and get their resumes direct to the people on the team. But there are no shortcuts to getting hired,” the spokesperson said.

The use of AI in important work decisions has attracted a great deal of attention and criticism in recent months.

A group of current and former Meta employees have accused the social media giant of using AI for redundancy selection.

Meanwhile, a study by CV-Library earlier this year found that increased use of AI in recruitment processes could be causing employers to overlook strong candidates.
